When you have won multiple industry awards, have stayed strong in your concept and been embraced for that concpet for mor ethan 10 years your popularity becomes the stuff of legends. The San Diego restaurant community 15 years ago was finding its indenity. Old Town had Mexican Food (huge for visitors), La Jolla had a few spots frequented by locals and major high end diners and downtown San Diego was a true mix of those restaurants deciding what would would be a winning concept. Some restaurants went for over the top colors and lights while trending towards below average food and rather uncomfortable seating. Others went with the nightclub/sports bar theme and it drew in people but they were mostly all inter-changeable.
Jon and Angie Weber took a risk with their concept of an upscale steakhouse and bar in the newly forming East Village of Downtown San Diego. They named it Cowboy Star and fully embraced a rich frontier cowboy theme while offering an ambience that suggests romantic and entertaining. You will not find large HD TVs in teh restaurant or loud music. You will enjoy an open kitchen, friendly staff and management and some of the best, most well prepared meats in all of Southern California. The restaurant also embraces a terrific wine list that compliments the items they serve.
See what others have said about Cowboy Star and we hoghly recommend it when you are in San Diego...
From Zagat Reviewers:
“Different from your typical steakhouse”, this “cowboy-chic” East Village chophouse matches “melt-in-your-mouth” steaks with inventive apps and sides and “handcrafted cocktails” in a “sophisticated” setting; it's “expensive, but worth it” for a special meal; P.S. the adjoining butcher shop sells premium steaks and game.” 5 Stars
I found this restaurant rather serendipitously through San Diego Restaurant Week. Not knowing what to expect, I was completely blown away by the food. They serve some of the best steaks I've ever had, and I'm originally from Texas. The service is quietly elegant and low key. I go back over and over again when possible. If I want to impress out of town guests, I take them here. 5 Stars
Amazing experience and food at Cowboy Star! We had our twin 5 year olds with us and the team went out of their way to make our dining experience spectacular! We even ate at the bar and was able to watch the culinary chefs working their art! 5 stars tonight! Thank you! 5 Stars
